Within the scope of the Salem Witch Trials, 19 innocent people were hanged and 1 was tortured to death – pressed over the course of two days. Giles Corey, an 81-year-old yeoman farmer known for his grumpy disposition was that one outlier. My mistake; I meant to say Cotton is Increase’s wife’s family name.

Just to comment on Cotton Mather’s name, Cotton is the name of his wife’s family. The wife family name was often used as a middle name of a child back in the day.
